Montessorium: Intro to Math App Reviews

Do not waste your money

I read parenting magazines review and took the chance at spending the money for the app. Now I know why there is not a free to try option! It is a very basic application and does not offer much of any education. The wood block sorting has the best interface when using but is rudimentary with no chance to increase difficulty as my 4 year old did the one the first try. The number tracing is no better than a host of free applications. I get the idea of having a "Montessori" look and feel to the application with no sound and pseudo wood block look but I certainly feel ripped off. shame on the maker for charging so much for so little. Do not waste your money.

Great app

This app is worth the money. It has several levels of learning, MUCH more than any free apps. Voice is very clear and direct, the Montessori way, and the look of the app is clean and modern, again, the Montessori way. This is such a great app and my son loves this, and Intro to Letters, also very good. Great education developers!

Great learning tool

This app is great for beginners. It teaches sorting, counting, number recognition and tracing. It follows the Montessori methods and is self correcting.

Too basic for the cost!

If you have a small child ages 2-3, this is a great introduction math app. For $5, I thought there would be more levels and activities for my four year old... But there isnt. He played it once without any challenges and has moved on. Waste of money.

Very good for early starters!

My four year old is starting with tracing numbers. She can already count to something like seventeen, but does not draw numbers yet and just starts to recognize their letters. Please improve the German soundtrack (native speaker( and timing (sometimes the words are too close, add half a second or so delay) and please make the language selectable from the App and not based on iOS language! Thanks for a very good app!

About the same as what youd pay for a large latte

I dont know why people are balking at paying $5 for this app. This app is great no nonsense education for kids learning numbers. My son is nearly four, but is still really struggling to recognize numbers. I hope this app helps him. I like Montessorium apps because they dont contain cute songs or animation that children will find distracting. This app is best suited for children aged 2-4, who are still learning to recognize and write numbers.

Great app but fix the bugs

Comment update: My son has enjoyed this app (ipad version) since I purchased it on they day of the release of the latest version, yet its limitations have not yet been addressed. 1. The app does not respond to volume controls. It is set at one volume level and you cannot even mute. 2. THE LANGUAGE OPTIONS. Please! Put language options back in-app. My son speaks spanish and all his apps that have language options are set to Spanish except this one (the most expensive one, by the way). ———— I just purchased version 1.5 for my Spanish speaking 2 year old. This is a great learning tool but this version has some major bugs to fix: 1. There is no language option. Only available option is English. 2. App is not responding to volume controls. So far the only bugs I have come across. Please fix! Thank you for a great product.

Buggy, unforgiving

First, the good things. This app has a good look. Unfortunately, the app does not work well. Every time my kid leaves an exercise, it starts from the beginning, which quickly becomes tedious. It does not allow the student to progress. User input is disabled regularly to finish a slow animation, so the kid feels the app is not responding. Many simple mis-clicks result in waiting for several seconds for a canned audio to repeat itself. The hit box on some manipulatives, like the number 8, are unforgivably small and result in the above frustration. The number tracing is unforgiving in unreasonable ways, and doesnt allow the user to correct well from a tracing mistake. The algorithm for tracing 8 is broken and can easily result in not learning how to write the numbers correctly. All lessons are presented in the exact same order from no knowledge, to some knowledge. There is no way to customize any of the lessons for someone who is already familiar with the very basics. Many manipulatives look like they can be handled in multiple ways, but they cant, and it is poor enough that the wrong lessons can easily be learned. The sounds never hint at what the user may be doing wrong. It is mindless. I would not recommend this as an app for teaching numbers in the Montessori method, as too many shortcuts have been made.

Waste of Money

No sound and lots of bugs make this boring and almost unplayable. One of the games doesnt seem to work at all. I want a refund!!

Great app

I love this app. It is age appropriate for both my 3 and 5 yr old. It has a variety of activities that are fun as well as educational.

More difficult to navigate

This was one of our favorite apps but its more confusing now. The big tiles dont show order as well anymore. The back back arrow on the black background my son cant find at all. Much greater contrast problems on skinny nav all around. It worked great before. I dont totally get why this app needed to try and ape Ives UI.

Excellent

We love this app. My 3yo can do some of the activities on his own, but there are still plenty of activities for an older/more advanced kid. This app will remain relevant for a long time. Plus, its easy to use and beautifully designed.

No volume control

I like this app for my girls but CAN WE PLEASE GET SOME VOLUME CONTROL? ITS STUCK ON THE HIGHEST VOLUME SETTING!

Beautiful but poor playability

This app is gorgeous, Ive never seen one so beautiful in color, texture, and font. And the sounds are really nice. The problem is its mechanics. For example, the number identification exercise requires the player to -precisely- place the number on the dotted line. Fine for older kids but frustrating for a two year old. It becomes more an exercise in mechanics than a math lesson. It pains me to watch my son select the correct number and see the app treat it like it was wrong. Similarly, the red circle counting exercise wants you to place the circles in a certain pattern, as opposed to just selecting the correct number of red circles. By mixing mechanics with math, this app just ensures that these exercises wont help kids until a certain age. If this is all Montessori, Id have to question that whole teaching philosophy. Also, and this may just be an easily solved technical issue, on the iPad, you cant control the volume. Its turned up all the way and you cant turn it down. Really frustrating.

Gmom

Would like to give this a higher rating because I did work in a Montessori school but, cant hear it. Kids cant hear then they dont want to play.

Terrible app

Im pretty upset with this app... The controls are sloppy and the games are incredibly boring. For instance, if you drop a number too early or not precisely on the line you have to watch it slowly crawl back to the bottom of the screen before you can try again. Kids dont have patience for this stuff. Also, you cant speed up the progression of the numbers before each game. In an incredibly boring monotone the game lists 1-10 and forces you to watch. All in all, this game is boring, annoying, and hard to use.

Miss-leading title

Your company lists this as Intro to math. But there is NO!! adding subtracting, multiplying or dividing. Should be titled intro to numbers or intro to counting. I want my money back :/

The title is totally wrong

I want My Money BACK not adding nor subtracting, wrong, wrong.

recommend passing on this one

feels like i wasted my cash.

Wonderful

My 3 yr old actually wants to play this and she has fun doing it. One of the best number learning apps I have seen. I would like it if the number tracing part wasnt so picky when she goes outside the lines but other than that, wonderful app.
